This is an initiative that aims at promoting an active and healthy lifestyle in the ageing population.
On this particular occasion, we are exploring a new concept in serious games where gameplay and physical exercise don’t have to occur at the same time.
To achieve that, we starting a new trial that aims at getting seniors walking through the use of a mobile game we have created.
This pilot study involves playing with a “twisted” version of the solitaire game (see image below) and wearing a Fitbit for a few weeks. (note: twisted in a good way 😊)
We are happy to provide the equipment for free (an android tablet and a Fitbit).
We are also happy for the participants to keep the devices after the study is completed (as a token of appreciation).
We are looking at 10 participants with the following characteristics:
- Fluent in English
- 65 years old (or more)
- Able to walk without any assistance
- With basic knowledge of the solitaire game
- Able to come to UTS once or twice in the entire study.
The study only requires 6 weeks of engagement.
The only thing you have to do is to wear the Fitbit and play with the game as much you wish.
We believe the game will motivate you to walk more than you currently do.
